Pancakes, Diners, and Ducks...oh my!
We jumped at the chance to design a new downtown location for Cincinnati's favorite breakfast spot, Sugar N Spice, inside an authentic 1950's diner car. It's a pink retro breakfast paradise!
The diner car was adoringly refurbished. We contacted a Cleveland diner car restoration company to source authentic stainless steel sunburst wall panels to match the originals. New swivel stools and channel back booths were upholstered in bubblegum pink, turquoise, and lemony yellow vinyl with poppy contrasting piping. The original bar, cove lighting, ceiling structure, and terrazzo floors were all maintained. Even the tiny retro bathrooms got a refresh.
The 1980's rear addition was our Sandra Dee. Her makeover included new ceiling with glowing racing stripes, angled mirrors, and a colorful custom mural. In keeping with the playful Sugar N Spice brand, the mural was dubbed "The Sistine Chapel of Pancakes" in which cartoon characters frolic in a heavenly landscape of giant flying breakfast foods. Brightly colored booths and banquettes tie this space to the diner car. There's even a mini mimosa bar that opens onto the rear patio.
Colorful, quirky, and fun, this place is sure to be a neighborhood favorite for years to come. And yes, there is a jukebox!
